Job summary

Affirm is seeking a backend engineer to own scalable, distributed systems on a remote-first platform. You will design and deliver high-availability services using Python or Kotlin, and work with Spark/Flink on Kubernetes, Airflow and AWS.

You will collaborate with product, design and analytics, lead by example, and drive quarterly goals while supporting the team through ambiguity and change.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Experience with scaling frameworks like Spark/Flink on Kubernetes.
• Developing highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Experience building/workflow orchestration with Airflow, Flyte, Prefect, Temporal, Luigi.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team and lead engineers through ambiguity.
• Collaborate with product, design and analytics in the end-to-end product lifecycle.
• Proactively identify and solve project, process, technology or business issues.
• Support operations and on-call efforts to keep team artifacts available.
• Set and improve code review and design standards across teams.
• Develop talent by giving feedback and leading by example.
