Job summary

Affirm, Inc. is seeking an experienced engineer to join the AI Platform team, shaping the gateway, runtime, and evaluation services that power AI workloads across millions of users.

You will own end-to-end technical decisions, partnering with security and product teams to set guardrails and ensure scalable, reliable delivery. You will work on enabling identity, quota, routing, caching, and failover controls while mentoring engineers and driving design standards across the organization.

Qualifications

• 4+ years building backend systems at scale in Python or Kotlin.
• Experience with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes in production.
• Hands-on with LLMs, agents, or AI frameworks at scale.
• Ability to define a technical plan with simple, extensible design.
• Strong ownership mindset and proactive growth mindset.

Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and own technical decisions within the AI Platform team through design, launch, and on-call.
• Design and build the gateway, runtime, and evaluation services for AI workloads at scale.
• Implement identity, quota, routing, caching, and failover controls for model/tool adoption.
• Collaborate with security, infra, and product teams to set guardrails for agentic workloads.
• Create and monitor metrics; own operational health, alerts, runbooks, and on-call duties.
• Raise and enforce design standards; share learnings via writing and talks.
• Leverage AI tools to multiply code quality, reviews, and operations.
• Mentor engineers and promote best practices in design, coding, and testing.
