Job summary

Affirm, Inc. is seeking an experienced backend engineer to join the AI Platform team.

You will design, build, and operate gateway, runtime, and evaluation services that scale AI workloads for millions of users and their transactions, while ensuring security, reliability, and observability. Based in Canada, you will collaborate with security, infrastructure, and product teams to set guardrails for agentic workloads, define technical plans, and drive best practices in design, coding, and testing.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Experience building with LLMs, agents, or AI frameworks in production.
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivering a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple and extensible design.
• Demonstrated ownership of growth and willingness to seek feedback.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for global collaboration.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and own technical decisions and projects within the AI Platform team, from design through launch and on-call.
• Design and build the gateway, runtime, and evaluation services that scale AI workloads to production.
• Make AI spend attributable and governable with identity, quota, routing, caching, and failover controls.
