Job summary

Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) seeks a Senior Advisor, Communications and Media Relations to lead strategic communications for Toronto Pearson and GTAA. You will serve as a key spokesperson, shaping messaging and content across channels, including podcasts, while managing high‑stakes media relations and complex issues.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Media Relations, you will provide expert counsel, build relationships with media and stakeholders, and handle on‑call duties

Qualifications

  • Three (3) years’ experience in either communications or news media.
  • Three (3) years’ experience preparing messaging or editorial material for public delivery.
  • Demonstrable experience working as a media spokesperson, including on‑camera and live media interviews.
  • Experience in a customer‑centric organization, familiar with customer experience models.
  • Experience working in a unionized 24/7 workplace.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to simplify complex information.
  • Strong relationship management and collaboration skills in multi‑stakeholder environments.
  • Proven organizational skills and discretion with confidential information.
  • Three (3) year college diploma in public relations, communications or related field or equivalent.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic communications counsel to internal clients and stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive communications plans.
  • Create content for news releases, media statements, social media, and podcasts.
  • Build and maintain relationships with media contacts and external stakeholders.
  • Act as primary media spokesperson and conduct interviews on topics.
  • Handle proactive and reactive media relations, including on-call inquiries.
  • Collaborate with SMEs to develop strategic messaging and positioning.
  • Provide communications support during operational issues and emergencies, including on‑call evenings/weekends.
  • Track and analyze performance of communications programs to show impact.
  • Champion a customer-centric approach within the team.
