Job summary

Commissionaires Victoria, the Islands & Yukon is seeking a part-time security professional in Parksville (Islands Health) to monitor access, conduct patrols, and respond to incidents with professionalism and discretion. Shifts are Wednesday to Friday afternoons (16:30 – 23:30).

The role requires a BC Security Workers License and the ability to obtain a Reliability Clearance; applicants must be at least 19. We offer RRSP contributions, extended health and dental coverage, and uniform and PPE

Qualifications

• Must possess a BC Security Workers License or be willing to obtain it.
• Must be able to obtain a Reliability Clearance and be at least 19 years old.
• Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Access Control: Monitor and control access to the facility, verify identification and issue passes as needed.
• Patrol Duties: Conduct regular patrols to detect suspicious activity or security threats.
• Surveillance Monitoring: Operate CCTV and alarm systems to identify and respond to incidents.
• Incident Response: Respond promptly to security incidents, coordinating with authorities as required.
• Report Writing: Prepare detailed incident reports and logs, maintaining clear communications with supervisors.
• Customer Service: Assist and guide visitors and employees while upholding security standards.

Position Status:Part-Time

Shifts:Wednesday to Friday afternoons (16:30 - 23:30)

Wage:$20.50/hr plus premiums

Reports to:Site Supervisor/ Client Service Manager

Key Responsibilities:

• Access Control: Monitor and control access to the facility, ensuring only authorized personnel and visitors enter. Verify identification and issue temporary passes as needed.
• Patrol Duties: Conduct regular patrols of the premises, to detect and deter any suspicious activity or potential security threats.
• Surveillance Monitoring: Operate and monitor surveillance systems, including CCTV cameras and alarm systems, to identify and respond to any security breaches.
• Incident Response: Respond promptly to security incidents, alarms, and emergencies, taking appropriate action to resolve the situation and minimize risk. This includes coordinating with law enforcement or emergency services as required.
• Report Writing: Prepare detailed and accurate incident reports, daily logs, and other security documentation as needed. Maintain clear communication with supervisors and other security personnel.
• Customer Service: Provide assistance and guidance to visitors and employees, ensuring a positive experience while maintaining security standards.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Must possess a valid BC Security Workers Licenseor be willing to obtain it.
• Must be able to obtain a Reliability Clearance and be minimum 19 years of age.
• Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations.
• Proficiency in using security technology (e.g., CCTV, access control systems).
• Physical fitness and ability to perform duties requiring standing, walking, and patrolling for extended periods.

Working Conditions:

• Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required.
• Must be able to work in various weather conditions if patrols involve outdoor areas.
• The position requires standing or walking for extended periods.
