Job summary

Commissionaires Victoria, The Islands And Yukon is seeking a Part-Time Security Officer for Parksville (Islands Health site). You will monitor access, patrol premises, and respond to incidents while providing friendly customer service.

Shifts are Wednesday to Friday afternoons (16:30–23:30). Wage is $20.50 per hour plus premiums. The role requires observing, reporting, and coordinating with supervisors to keep facilities safe.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid BC Security Worker License or willingness to obtain it.
• Must be able to obtain Reliability Clearance and be at least 19 years old.
• Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to stay calm in high-pressure situations.
• Proficiency in using security technology (e.g., CCTV, access control systems).
• Physical fitness and ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Access control: Monitor and control entry to the facility; verify IDs and issue passes as needed.
• Patrol duties: Regularly patrol premises to deter threats and ensure safety.
• Surveillance monitoring: Operate CCTV and alarm systems to detect breaches.
• Incident response: Respond to alarms and emergencies; coordinate with authorities as required.
• Report writing: Produce detailed incident reports and daily logs for supervisors.
• Customer service: Assist visitors and employees while maintaining security standards.

Position Status: Part-Time

Reports to: Site Supervisor/ Client Service Manager

Key Responsibilities:

• Access Control: Monitor and control access to the facility, ensuring only authorized personnel and visitors enter. Verify identification and issue temporary passes as needed.
• Patrol Duties: Conduct regular patrols of the premises, to detect and deter any suspicious activity or potential security threats.
• Surveillance Monitoring: Operate and monitor surveillance systems, including CCTV cameras and alarm systems, to identify and respond to any security breaches.
• Incident Response: Respond promptly to security incidents, alarms, and emergencies, taking appropriate action to resolve the situation and minimize risk. This includes coordinating with law enforcement or emergency services as required.
• Report Writing: Prepare detailed and accurate incident reports, daily logs, and other security documentation as needed. Maintain clear communication with supervisors and other security personnel.
• Customer Service: Provide assistance and guidance to visitors and employees, ensuring a positive experience while maintaining security standards.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Must possess a valid BC Security Workers Licenseor be willing to obtain it.
• Must be able to obtain a Reliability Clearance and be minimum 19 years of age.

• Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations.
• Proficiency in using security technology (e.g., CCTV, access control systems).
• Physical fitness and ability to perform duties requiring standing, walking, and patrolling for extended periods.

Working Conditions:

• Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required.
• Must be able to work in various weather conditions if patrols involve outdoor areas.
• The position requires standing or walking for extended periods.
