Position Information
- Science Laboratory Technician - The primary role is to assist the Science Department with the day-to-day preparation and maintenance of the science labs, activities, & equipment.
Qualifications
- Minimum completion of a 2-year post-secondary certificate
- Post-secondary degree in Science field is an asset
- WHMIS training
- Effective organization and administrative skills, with attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Good numeracy and literacy
- Proficiency in various computer applications
- The ability to prioritize assignments, meet deadlines and manage the workloads of others
- The ability to work both independently and cooperatively as part of a team and communicate effectively with all members of the school community
- Empathy with young people and awareness of safeguarding issues
- Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in a science learning environment and with science knowledge in Biology, Physics, or Chemistry
Duties And Responsibilities
- Preparing teaching resources and chemicals as requested in advance by teachers.
- Cleaning and arranging for routine repair or maintenance of equipment.
- Ensuring all apparatus and chemicals are put away correctly.
- Maintaining tidy and well-organized laboratories, chemical store, and preparation area.
- Replenishing stocks of chemical solutions.
- Arranging for the correct disposal of waste materials.
- Ensuring correct storage and maintenance of data logging equipment.
- In-class support of teachers and students during experiments.
- Liaising with senior students about laboratory needs for independent investigations and extended essays.
- Liaising with the Director of Science for equipment orders and arranging for the purchase of consumable resources.
- Maintaining up-to-date records of equipment and materials.
- Maintaining and monitoring safety procedures.
- Lead on Safety aspects in the Science Department.
- Help to manage the Science Department budget.
- Out-of-class support of students during experiments.
