Job summary

Finning Canada is seeking a Reliability Engineer to lead technical efforts for fleet performance through asset management, reliability analysis, and maintenance optimization.

You will evaluate equipment condition, develop reliability standards, and drive initiatives across rental fleet, field operations, service teams, and OEMs to reduce downtime and total cost of ownership.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary Education in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering (preferred).
  • Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician Certification also considered.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an industrial environment desired.
  • Experience with CAT equipment and software would be an asset.
  • Mechanical or Electrical aptitude with Large Generators, Air Compressors or similar equipment would be an asset.
  • Experience with Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office packages.
  • Accuracy in work and strong attention to details.
  • Time management, prioritization, and independent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities to effectively manage risk to the business.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure reliability, availability, and performance of rental fleet by analyzing failures and implementing maintenance strategies.
  • Work with rental and service operations to reduce downtime and optimize asset life.
  • Investigate failures and report root causes and corrective actions.
  • Lead field test evaluations to extend component life and reliability.
  • Lead OEM Field Follow Programs as needed.
  • Provide Parts Support to ensure quick turnaround times and uptime in shops.

The Reliability Engineer provides technical leadership to improve fleet performance and support business objectives through asset management, reliability analysis, and maintenance optimization. The role evaluates equipment condition, develops reliability standards, and drives initiatives that enhance fleet utilization, reduce total cost of ownership, and improve customer satisfaction. This position collaborates with field operations, service teams, internal rental personnel, and equipment manufacturers to ensure effective decision-making and continuous improvement across the rental fleet.

Job Description
  • This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and performance of the rental fleet by analyzing equipment failures, identifying root causes, and implementing maintenance and continuous improvement strategies.
  • This role works closely with rental and service operations teams to reduce downtime, optimize asset life, and ensure equipment is safe, dependable, and ready for customer use.
  • Product Reliability and Fleet Performance Investigation and reporting on equipment failures, identifying root cause and corrective actions to mitigate future fleet impacts
  • Develop and Manage Field Test Evaluations on alternative Fluids and Components to extend component life and reliability of Generators, Compressors and other Rental Equipment.
  • Responsible to also lead any Caterpillar or OEM Field Follow Programs.
  • Manage the Quality Control Test and Inspection Procedure for Compressed Air Hoses
  • Track and Assist Rental Coordinators with Corrective Action Support when Field Issues are identified by Condition Monitoring Software to minimize downtime and field swaps
  • Perform special projects as required to support fleet uptime
  • Technical Resource Support the Equipment Selection and Readiness Prep process for Remote Location Rental Application and Used De-fleeting Review and Action Equipment Service Letters and associated OEM product improvements recommendations
  • Provide Equipment Health & Performance Reporting on the Fleet in relation to KPI’s
  • Manage Fleet Telematics Software ensuring equipment data is available to monitor fleet health, performance, location and remote location functions
  • Process Improvements Evaluate and Collaborate with Finning Branches on Yard Space, Tooling, Capacity and Capability required to support Shop and Field Activities
  • Engage with External Vendors to Provide needed field and shop support services to maintain the rental fleet as required
  • Support the Selection and Enhancement of Fleet Software Tracking Tools to Improve Efficiency of Maintenance Program Execution
  • Provide Parts Support to ensure minimum maintenance and repair turn-around time to achieve minimum return-to-rent ready time in shops and maximize uptime on field projects, including sourcing alternate vendors for parts, and working with Cat on supply constraints
Education & Experience
