Job summary

Finning Canada is seeking Reliability Engineers to support mining sites in Alberta, focusing on proactive diagnostics and data-driven improvements for CAT mining equipment. The role involves field data collection, KPI tracking, and collaboration with Caterpillar teams and customer maintenance staff.

Based at mine sites on 7x7 or 14x14 shifts, you will analyze component life, manage service communications, and provide technical support to drive performance, reliability, and safety initiatives

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Mechanical or Mining; P.Eng preferred.
  • Professional registration or membership in technical societies.
  • 3–5 years mining or oil & gas experience required.
  • Experience with CAT mining equipment (Large Mining Machine) is an asset.
  • Experience with CAT instruments: SIS2.0, Dealer Connect, TMIWEB, ET, and VIMS is an asset.
  • Understand equipment design, engineering drawings, standards & specs.
  • Mechanical aptitude with knowledge of mining machine components.
  • Understanding of condition monitoring including oil & failure analysis.
  • MS Office including Power BI proficiency.
  • Knowledge of fabrication/metrology is a plus.
  • Attention to detail and time management; problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Technical resource investigation of equipment failures including field research and data collection.

  • Manage and track service letters and updates for on-site equipment.
  • Provide technical support to drive improvement projects.
  • Identify and support root cause investigations for equipment failures.
  • Provide maintenance technical support and problem-solving.
  • Analyze and report equipment performance (availability and KPI) weekly, monthly, quarterly.
  • Support condition monitoring: downloading and analyzing electronic information.
  • Track trends in payload management and operating practices.
  • Data collection and reporting on component performance.
  • Manage multiple priorities to mitigate risk.
  • Coordinate with Caterpillar technical information for product improvement.
  • Interact with customer network and technical services team.
  • Foster teamwork and consistency across sites.
  • Support process improvements with data for Caterpillar requests.
  • Supply data for product improvement initiatives.
  • Observe safety procedures and maintain professional conduct.

Overview: The Reliability Engineer for Finning Canada will be based at selected mine sites and be responsible for providing technical support and data analysis and reporting functionality on mining equipment to assist in the equipment management process. Primary focus will be on proactive diagnostic management along with managing Mining Machine product reliability and performance. The objective is to improve customer satisfaction by working with the customer’s reliability and maintenance personnel, Finning’s branch operations, Mining Equipment Management team, Caterpillar (District and Product Groups). We are looking for Reliability Engineers to support Kearl and Suncor. This will be a 7 x 7 or 14 x 14 continuous shift (Days Only)

Job Description
  • Technical Resource Investigation of and reporting on equipment failures including field research and data collection within Finning and Caterpillar
  • Analyze components' performance: life, durability/reliability, history
  • Manage and track all service letters and updates for equipment on site
  • Provide technical support to drive improvement projects
  • Identify, report and support investigation, and root cause analysis on equipment failures including field research and data collection
  • Technical support for maintenance personnel and technical problem solutions as needed
  • Product Reliability and Performance Analyze and report equipment performance in terms of availability and other specific KPI’s Weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting as required on various technical and operational indicators
  • Support mining equipment condition monitoring: downloading and analyzing electronic information
  • Monitoring and developing trend information on payload management as well as operational practices
  • Data collection and reporting on component performance
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities to effectively manage risk to the business
  • Relationship Management of Caterpillar technical information and product improvement information
  • Support and interact with customer network along with technical services team
  • Team working abilities to develop effective collaboration with peers and consistency across all sites
  • Process Improvements Support and provide requested data to aid in process improvement
  • Supply data and support Caterpillar requests, test equipment and product improvement initiatives
  • Accountability Observe site and personal safety procedures
  • Provide quality and timely daily and weekly reporting to support business and contractual obligations
  • Act timely and diligently on customer requests
  • Represent the company in a professional and ethical manner
Education & Experience
  • Post-secondary Education in Mechanical, Mining - Preference will be given to P Eng but will consider EIT candidates
  • Professional registration and/or membership in committees and/or technical societies
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in mining or oil and gas is required
  • Experience with CAT mining equipment, including Large Mining Machine, would be an asset
  • Experience on CAT instruments: SIS2.0, Dealer Connect, TMIWEB, ET and VIMS will be an asset
  • Understand equipment design, engineering drawings, design standards and specifications
  • Mechanical aptitudes, including understanding of Mining Machine components (diesel engines, hydraulic systems, powertrain, pumps, cylinders, structures etc.)
  • Understanding of condition monitoring including oil and failure analysis
  • Proficiency in MS Office packages including Power BI
  • Knowledge of manufacturing/fabrication methodologies
  • Accuracy in work and strong attention to details
  • Time management, prioritization, and independent problem-solving skills
