Production Scheduler

Opportunity Overview

Dessert Holdings is looking for a Production Scheduler to be based on site at our London, Ontario facility. This individual will build the production schedule by day for the baking, decorating, and packing processes, balancing input and output into the WIP freezer, meeting plant standards, service level, and working capital goals. Coordinating closely with Operations, Supply Planning, and Procurement, the Production Scheduler will accomplish these goals and actively participate in new production launch meetings to coordinate schedule for trials and product launches.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Schedule finite production on a shift-by-shift basis for the baking, decorating, and packaging processes for the agreed scheduling horizon, utilizing the supply plan from the Supply Chain Planning Manager and following all established quality standards and allergen flow charts.
  • Meet plant standards by scheduling longer runs and reducing changeovers where possible, while making sure the WIP freezer is not over or underutilized.
  • Build full labor utilization into the schedule in coordination with the labor scheduler to ensure employee schedules are met through the collective agreement.
  • Coordinate with the Supply Chain Planning Manager, and seek approval from the plant manager, to make decisions on tradeoffs between plant efficiency, labor utilization, service level and working capital goals, escalating the discussion where necessary.
  • Work with the Operations, Planning and Procurement teams on schedule changes, with a mandate to maintain a 2-week locked schedule with changes made only according to the approved process.
  • Identify slots to schedule trials, bake tests and First Production Runs for new products in coordination with planning, R&D, and new product teams.
  • Create work orders in Navision for production at co-packing facility in line with schedule drawn up by Supply Chain Planning Manager.
  • Participate in transition to and implementation of Microsoft Dynamics D365 at London facility over next 12-18 months.
  • Contribute to productivity and cost improvement projects at the London facility.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education – Bachelor's in Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance OR relevant certifications (APICS CPIM, CSCP, P. Log etc.)
  • Preference will be given to candidates with plant floor scheduling experience in food and beverage or consumer packaged goods industry
  • 6+ years of progressive supply chain experience in Supply Chain planning or production schedulingin consumer goods or a similar fast-moving industry
  • Excellent knowledge of production scheduling concepts and able to quickly grasp the intricacies of plant operations
  • Able to work independently and assume ownership of scheduling for the plant with limited supervision
  • Experienced using MS Excel and other office tools
  • Working knowledge of any ERP systems, with prior use of Microsoft Dynamics 365 or Microsoft Navision an asset
