The role requires 8–10 years in power systems, strong leadership, and cross-functional collaboration with Sales, Engineering, and Operations to deliver reliable power solutions.

Qualifications

• Certification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Engineering Technology or Electrical Trades Diploma or Journeyperson Certification.
• 3–5 years of project management experience and commissioning/field service in power generation.
• Strong technical expertise in electrical and/or mechanical power generation systems.
• Experience working with customers, contractors, suppliers and multi-disciplinary teams.
• Dual trade certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive testing and commissioning plans for power system projects.
• Lead commissioning activities to ensure safety, on schedule, and within budget.

Position Overview: Finning Canada is seeking an experienced Power & Energy Production Manager to join our growing Electric Power Generation team in Surrey, BC. Reporting to the Manager, Project Management Services, this role is responsible for the successful management of package inspection, factory acceptance testing (FAT), commissioning, and warranty support for power system products and packaged solutions. The successful candidate will work closely with Sales, Engineering, Project Management, Operations, suppliers, and customers to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with customer expectations, contractual scope, quality standards, and budget requirements. This role is ideal for a technically strong power systems professional who combines field commissioning expertise with leadership, project coordination, and continuous improvement capabilities.

Job Description:

Major Responsibilities

Commissioning & Warranty Support (50%)

• Develop comprehensive testing and commissioning plans for power system projects and align scope, schedules, and expectations with customers.
• Maintain visibility of upcoming commissioning activities to support planning, forecasting, and resource allocation.
• Collaborate with Project Management and Operations teams to ensure appropriately skilled technical resources are available for site commissioning activities.
• Lead commissioning activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and according to agreed scope.
• Manage deficiency resolution, customer acceptance, and project sign-off processes.
• Coordinate and facilitate customer operator training during commissioning activities as required.
• Provide technical support during warranty periods, including site optimization efforts and balance-of-plant warranty issues involving third‑party vendors.
• Support the development of training strategies, tooling requirements, and commissioning best practices in collaboration with Learning & Development and Operations teams.
• Monitor commissioning schedules and financial performance to minimize cost overruns and effectively manage scope changes.

Package Inspection, Factory Testing & Quality Management (50%)

• Provide overall responsibility for package construction quality and code compliance.
• Monitor projects during fabrication and construction phases to identify and address safety, durability, functionality, and compliance concerns.
• Develop and execute Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) plans to validate equipment performance and quality standards.
• Collaborate with suppliers, engineering teams, and service operations to communicate requirements, resolve design issues, and improve documentation quality.
• Review package‑related field issues and provide feedback to Engineering, Estimating, Project Management, and Sales teams.
• Establish supplier quality requirements and ensure compliance with Finning standards.
• Develop and maintain quality control checklists, testing procedures, and validation processes.
• Create and implement standardized package construction requirements and ensure consistency across suppliers and packagers.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to packaging design, manufacturing quality, commissioning processes, and field performance.
• Establish structured feedback loops and field follow‑up processes to capture lessons learned and drive product improvements.
• Participate in technical solution development and project review meetings.
• Support technician and electrician development, succession planning, and technical training programs in partnership with Operations leaders and Learning & Development.
• Develop operational support programs for new Electric Power Generation products and technologies.
• Provide leadership, direction, and technical guidance to cross‑functional teams to ensure successful project execution and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications & Experience Required

• Certification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Engineering Technology, or Electrical Trades Diploma or Journeyperson Certification.
• Minimum 8-10 years of power systems industry experience.
• Minimum 3-5 years of commissioning and field service experience within power generation, industrial power systems, or related industries.
• Strong technical expertise in electrical and/or mechanical power generation systems.
• Experience working with customers, contractors, suppliers, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Preferred Dual trade certification.
• Experience working with third‑party packagers and equipment suppliers.
• Project Management certification (PMP or equivalent).
• 3-5 years of project management experience.
• Experience with large‑scale power generation, standby power, or industrial energy solutions.
