Job summary

Russel Metals in Winnipeg, MB is seeking a reliable Plasma Operator to operate our CNC plasma cutting table and produce parts that meet customer and production requirements. The role involves loading and positioning steel, cutting, deburring, and preparing finished parts for shipment, with overhead cranes and forklifts used to move materials safely.

This is a three-shift rotating position (days, evenings, nights) in a safety‑driven, manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience operating a CNC plasma table or similar CNC cutting equipment.
  • Background in metal fabrication, steel processing, or manufacturing.
  • Experience operating overhead cranes and forklifts.
  • Ability to read shop drawings, work orders, and measurements.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of a team.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lift and handle materials as required.
  • Willingness and ability to work a rotating three-shift schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC plasma cutting equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Load, position, and secure steel plate and other materials for cutting.
  • Set up and monitor plasma cutting operations to ensure parts are produced according to specifications.
  • Review work orders, drawings, cut lists, and production requirements.
  • Monitor cutting quality and make adjustments as required.
  • Inspect completed parts for dimensional accuracy, cut quality, and conformance to requirements.
  • Remove cut parts from the plasma table and safely handle material using appropriate equipment.
  • Clean, deburr, sort, and organize cut parts as required.
  • Package and prepare finished parts for shipment.
  • Operate overhead cranes and forklifts to move raw materials, work-in-process, and finished products.
  • Maintain an organized and clean work area.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and identify maintenance issues.
  • Report quality issues, equipment problems, and production concerns to the supervisor.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Maintain production requirements while minimizing waste and downtime.
  • Collaborate with other operators to maintain efficient flow of material through the shop.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and safety-focused Plasma Operator to join our metal fabrication team. The Plasma Operator is responsible for operating our CNC plasma cutting table to produce quality parts according to customer and production requirements.

This position involves the complete material flow process, including loading and positioning steel, operating the plasma table, removing and handling cut parts, cleaning and preparing parts, and packaging finished products for shipment. The successful candidate will also operate overhead cranes and forklifts to safely move raw materials and finished products throughout the facility.

This is a three-shift rotating position, with employees rotating between day, evening, and night shifts according to the established production schedule.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate CNC plasma cutting equipment safely and efficiently.
