Job summary

VON Canada is seeking a Personal Support Worker to provide person-centred home care, supporting daily living, and helping clients stay independent in their own homes. You will travel between clients' homes, contributing to care plans and delivering compassionate, practical support throughout the day.

The role requires PSW/DSW certification, First Aid/CPR where applicable, a valid driver’s license and a personal vehicle, and a clear criminal record.

Qualifications

• PSW or Developmental Services Worker certification is required.
• Nursing students who have completed first year of RPN or BScN are eligible to apply.
• Must have a current Standard First Aid or CPR level C certificate, if applicable.
• Must enjoy driving, have a personal vehicle and a valid driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance.
• Current satisfactory Criminal Records Check required.
• Must be able to wear PPE.

Responsibilities

• Provide care to clients in their own homes.
• Help develop the client's care plan.
• Assist with personal care (bathing, grooming, dressing).
• Assist with mobility and transfers for safety and comfort.
• Plan and prepare nutritious meals and perform light housekeeping.
• Offer respite care to families.
• Monitor and maintain a safe home environment.
• Collaborate with healthcare teams.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

About the role

What we are looking for

• Personal Support Worker or Developmental Services Worker certification
• Nursing students who have completed first year of RPN or BScN or internationally educated nurses are eligible to apply
• Must have a current Standard First Aid Certificate or CPR level C Certificate, if applicable to the work being performed
• Must enjoy driving, have a personal vehicle and possess both a current driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance
• A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check
• Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Working conditions and physical demands

This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in the role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
