Personal Support Worker - Petersburg, ON - CAD$378.00/week

Description

We're seeking a compassionate and experienced caregiver to support a client recovering from hip replacement surgery while also caring for her 5-year-old son. This is a daily position starting November 4th, 2026, running through early December.

About the Client:

The client is awaiting hip replacement surgery scheduled for October 23rd at Humber River Hospital in Toronto. She has advanced osteoarthritis with bone-on-bone contact, significant pain that disrupts sleep, and limited mobility requiring a walker. After surgery, she'll spend approximately one week recovering at her parents' home in Toronto before returning to her residence in Petersburg on November 4th. She also has a 5-year-old son in French immersion school who needs care and supervision during this recovery period. The client is a naturopathic doctor who has reduced her work hours due to her condition.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with post-surgical personal care including toileting, hygiene, dressing, and bathing (note: home has bathtub upstairs, shower downstairs)
• Support mobility and transfers using walker
• Help with ice pack machine (Game Ready system) for post-surgical recovery
• Prepare meals and handle light housekeeping (deep cleaning covered separately)
• Provide childcare for 5-year-old including homework assistance, after-school care, and bedtime routine
• Install and maintain safety gates at stairs
• Occasional transportation for errands or appointments
• Coordinate with neighbor for school transportation as needed

What We're Looking For:

• Experience with post-surgical hip replacement care
• Comfortable with personal care and mobility assistance
• Reliable, patient, and calm demeanor
• Ability to work independently and take initiative
• Experience with young children preferred
• French language skills are a bonus but not required
• Female caregiver preferred for personal care comfort

Schedule:

Daily visits from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM (3 hours), seven days per week, starting November 4th through approximately December 3rd. The caregiver will arrive before the child returns from school and stay through bedtime routine. Client may require additional morning hours (2 hours) depending on recovery progress.

The home is a raised bungalow in Petersburg, approximately 10 minutes from Mannheim. A weekly cleaning service handles deep cleaning on Wednesdays.

Client uses a walker and will need assistance with stairs (raised bungalow with two flights). Client has a 5-year-old son who will need supervision and care during caregiver visits. Home has bathtub upstairs (no shower) with half glass panel. Client will be using Game Ready ice pack machine post-surgery. Client has weekly cleaning service on Wednesdays for 2 hours.
