Job description

About the Clients:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver to support an elderly couple in their rural home just outside Mount Forest. The wife was recently diagnosed with emphysema and vascular disease, which limits her ability to perform physical tasks and causes breathing difficulties. Both parents value their independence and are new to receiving care, so they're looking for someone patient who can help them ease into this transition. They have one indoor cat and live on a property with a long driveway.

Responsibilities:

The caregiver will provide light household support to help maintain the home and reduce physical strain on the clients. Key tasks include:

  • Changing bed linens and managing laundry
  • Carrying laundry baskets up and down stairs
  • Taking garbage bins out to the curb
  • Lifting and pouring water softener salt (25-50 lb bags)
  • Light tidying and general household maintenance
  • Providing companionship and building trust with the clients
  • Assisting with mobility support as needed, including walking assistance and transfers

No personal care is currently required, though this may change as the relationship develops and the clients become more comfortable.

What We're Looking For:

The ideal caregiver will be warm, reliable, and patient. This couple needs someone who respects their independence while providing gentle support. We're looking for someone who:

  • Makes clients feel comfortable and at ease
  • Is calm, consistent, and dependable
  • Takes initiative with household tasks
  • Has experience supporting clients with mobility challenges
  • Is comfortable working in a rural setting
  • Is comfortable around cats

This is a wonderful opportunity for a caregiver who enjoys building meaningful relationships and supporting clients in maintaining their quality of life at home.

Schedule:

We're starting with one 3-hour morning visit per week (any day except Wednesday, ideally 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM). As the clients become more comfortable, there may be opportunities to increase hours. Consistency and reliability are essential, as the family is looking for one dedicated caregiver rather than rotating staff.
