Job description

Personal Support Worker - Picton, Prince Edward County - CAD$108.00/week
Description
About the Client:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 83-year-old gentleman living in Prince Edward County, near Picton. He lives at home with his spouse, who is very independent but would benefit from additional support. He's experiencing some vision loss and mobility challenges - he can walk independently but is approaching the point where a walker may be needed. He's slowing down and needs encouragement with daily activities. This is their first time receiving professional care support.

Responsibilities:

The caregiver will provide companionship and practical support including:

  • Assistance with bathing and personal hygiene (he can shower independently but needs prompting and supervision)
  • Light housekeeping tasks such as laundry, wiping down counters, and tidying
  • Encouraging and supporting daily activities and routines
  • Transportation for errands, appointments, coffee outings, and haircuts using the client's vehicle
  • Providing respite for his spouse, giving her peace of mind when she needs to be away
  • Building rapport and establishing trust over time
What We're Looking For:

The ideal caregiver is a warm, patient, and reliable PSW who can connect well with seniors. We're looking for someone who:

  • Is comfortable providing personal care support, particularly bathing assistance
  • Can provide companionship and engage in conversation
  • Takes initiative and can work independently
  • Has a valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Is comfortable with the 30-minute commute from Belleville or 15 minutes from Picton
  • Speaks English fluently
  • Brings positive energy and makes the client feel comfortable
  • Respects independence while providing necessary support
  • Communicates clearly with family members

Preference will be given to caregivers who are local, Canadian-born, and have experience working with senior males. The family values cultural alignment and is seeking someone who can build a long-term relationship with their father.

Schedule:

Wednesdays from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM on a recurring weekly basis. The family is flexible and open to adjusting days and times based on caregiver availability. They're looking to start with once weekly visits with potential to add a second day as the relationship develops. The client is home daily and has a flexible schedule, so we can work around the right caregiver's availability.

Additional Considerations

Caregiver should be comfortable working with a senior male client. Valid driver's license required - caregiver will drive client's vehicle for errands and appointments. Client lives in a rural area (Prince Edward County/Picton area), approximately 30 minutes from Belleville. Caregiver should be patient, take initiative, communicate clearly, and bring positive energy. Client's spouse is independent and active, so caregiver will primarily focus on supporting the client.
