Job description

Description

We're seeking a compassionate and reliable caregiver to provide after-school support for a 15-year-old with mobility and personal care needs in Midland, Ontario.

About the Client:

Our daughter is a friendly, talkative teenager who loves spending time on her iPad and chatting about her day at school and friends. She uses a wheelchair for mobility and requires assistance with daily activities. While her speech may take some time to understand initially, she communicates well once you get to know her. She's happy, social, and enjoys engaging with caregivers who bring positive energy.

Responsibilities:
  • Arrive shortly before 2:00 PM to open the garage door and greet her as she arrives home on the school bus
  • Assist with transferring her from the bus and wheeling her into the house
  • Help remove her coat, jacket, and boots upon arrival (may need to let wheelchair dry on entrance rug during winter)
  • Get her settled comfortably in the living room with her iPad
  • Prepare and serve light snacks and drinks from provided options
  • Provide supervision and companionship throughout the afternoon
  • Assist with diaper changes if needed using the lift system in her bedroom (school typically changes her before departure)
  • Optional: Help change her into pajamas before parent arrives home
  • Light housekeeping tasks such as laundry may be requested
  • During winter months: Clear a path through snow on the driveway to ensure wheelchair accessibility (not full driveway clearing)
What We're Looking For:
  • Experience working with teenagers or individuals with mobility challenges
  • Comfortable using patient lift systems for transfers and personal care
  • Ability to assist with toileting and diaper changes with dignity and respect
  • Patient communicator who takes time to understand speech differences
  • Reliable, punctual, and brings positive energy
  • Takes initiative and communicates clearly with family
  • Comfortable entering the home independently using provided access code
  • English and/or French speaking
Schedule

Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM during the school year, starting September 8th. This is a recurring daily position needed throughout the academic year with potential for renewal.
