Job Description - Pastry Cook

Reports To: Head Pastry Chef, Executive Chef

The Pastry Cook at L’Abattoir Restaurant is a frontline team member responsible for supporting the profitable and efficient operation of the pastry department, including Private Dining and the main restaurant. The role involves working closely with the kitchen leadership team to ensure high-quality pastry products are delivered across all service areas.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Oversee the successful execution of all meal periods and events within their jurisdiction.
  2. Represent the business professionally at all times.
  3. Adhere to all company values, management principles, and conduct guidelines outlined in the company handbook.
  4. Ensure compliance with Vancouver Health Authority, WorkSafeBC, and WHMIS regulations.
  5. Manage team operations and human resources effectively.
  6. Assist in maintaining ingredient and supply inventories required for private dining and à la carte menus.
  7. Communicate professionally in verbal and written English.
  8. Support training and development of pastry team members.
  9. Report equipment needs and repairs to kitchen leadership.
  10. Handle daily mise en place and execution of meal periods.
  11. Organize bread and pastry production for private events.
  12. Monitor the use of pastry equipment and resources to maximize efficiency and minimize waste.
  13. Maintain cleanliness and organization of workspace and equipment.
  14. Check deliveries for accuracy and report discrepancies.
  15. Collaborate with other departments to anticipate and address pastry needs.
  16. Contribute to the development of seasonal desserts for menus.
  17. Ensure the success of the pastry department in the absence of the Pastry Chef.
