Job summary

LASIK MD Calgary is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician (Optician or science graduate) for a temporary full-time mandate. You will perform preoperative and postoperative measurements, explain procedures to patients, and support a busy ophthalmology clinic in Calgary.

You will review imaging maps, stay informed about clinic procedures and technologies, deliver outstanding patient care, and assist with risk management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in science or Opticianry training with COT/COMT credentials.
• Strong English communication and patient care skills.
• Comfort with computers; experience with EMR is a plus.
• Experience in eye-care environment is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Perform preoperative and postoperative measurements and explain procedures to patients.
• Review imaging maps to validate accuracy.
• Be knowledgeable about clinic procedures and ophthalmic technologies.
• Provide outstanding customer service and patient care.
• Support Risk Management by reporting patient safety concerns to management.

• You have a temporary full-time position (contract of approximately 18 months and 32 hrs/week). Please note that weekly hours are based on operational needs, may vary, and are not guaranteed.

Your tasks at a glance

• You complete preoperative and postoperative measurements, offering clear explanations to patients throughout the process.
• You review imaging maps to validate their accuracy.
• You are knowledgeable about procedures and technologies available in the clinic.
• You provide outstanding customer service and patient care.
• You support the organization’s Risk Management program by identifying and promptly reporting patient safety concerns, incidents, or potential risks to clinic management, to assist in the organization’s overall efforts to identify, report, and mitigate risks.

A clear view of your assets

• You are a graduate of a Bachelor's program in science (Bsc), an Opticianry program (license not required), a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), or a Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT).
• You are comfortable with computers, technology, and Microsoft 365 (knowledge of EMR systems is an asset).
• You are motivated tolearn how to use various diagnostic and testingtools.
• You have excellent communication skills in English.
• Your experience in an eye-care environment is an asset.
• Schedule: You have flexible availability on Monday to Thursday, hours vary based on surgery schedule.
• Required flexibility: You have flexibility to be scheduled between our LASIK MD Calgary location & our TLC Laser Eye Centres Calgary location.
