Job summary

LASIK MD Edmonton is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician (Opticianry graduate or SCIENCE degree) to join our team. You will perform preoperative and postoperative measurements, explain procedures to patients, and review imaging maps for accuracy.

This role emphasizes customer service, clinical knowledge of available technologies, and active participation in risk management. Flexibility is needed for a 20 hr/week permanent part-time schedule, with occasional Saturdays and the option to travel

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in science or equivalent is preferred.
• Experience or credential in optometry/ophthalmic testing is an asset.
• Strong English communication and customer service skills required.

Responsibilities

• Perform preoperative and postoperative measurements and clearly explain steps to patients.
• Review imaging maps to ensure accuracy.
• Be knowledgeable about available procedures and technologies in the clinic.
• Provide outstanding customer service and patient care.
• Support Risk Management by reporting patient safety concerns to clinic management.

Your tasks at a glance

• You complete preoperative and postoperative measurements, offering clear explanations to patients throughout the process.
• You review imaging maps to validate their accuracy.
• You are knowledgeable about procedures and technologies available in the clinic.
• You provide outstanding customer service and patient care.
• You support the organization’s Risk Management program by identifying and promptly reporting patient safety concerns, incidents, or potential risks to clinic management, to assist in the organization’s overall efforts to identify, report, and mitigate risks.

A clear view of your assets

• You are a graduate of a Bachelor's program in science (Bsc), an Opticianry program (license not required), a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), or a Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT).
• You are comfortable with computers, technology, and Microsoft 365 (knowledge of EMR systems is an asset).
• You are motivated to learn how to use various diagnostic and testing tools.
• You have excellent communication skills in English.
• Your experience in an eye-care environment is an asset.
• Schedule: You have flexible availability on Monday to Friday between 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, with occasional Saturdays (approx. 1 Saturday p/month, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM).
• Required: You are comfortable traveling between our LASIK MD South and King LASIK locations to occasionally help as business needs shift.
