Job summary

TLC Laser Eye Centres Calgary is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician (Optician or Science graduate) for a temporary full-time role. The position involves 32 hours per week over a roughly 18-month contract, with scheduling based on surgical timelines.

You will perform preoperative and postoperative measurements, review imaging maps, and support patient care. The role requires strong English communication and comfort with computers and EMR systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in science required or related field.
• Opticianry training or equivalent considered.
• Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or COMT preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform preoperative and postoperative measurements and explain steps to patients.
• Review imaging maps for accuracy.
• Be knowledgeable about clinic procedures and technologies.
• Provide outstanding customer service and patient care.
• Support Risk Management by reporting safety concerns and incidents.

Your tasks at a glance

• You complete preoperative and postoperative measurements, offering clear explanations to patients throughout the process.
• You review imaging maps to validate their accuracy.
• You are knowledgeable about procedures and technologies available in the clinic.
• You provide outstanding customer service and patient care.
• You support the organization's Risk Management program by identifying and promptly reporting patient safety concerns, incidents, or potential risks to clinic management, to assist in the organization's overall efforts to identify, report, and mitigate risks.

A clear view of your assets

• You are a graduate of a Bachelor's program in science (Bsc), an Opticianry program (license not required), a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), or a Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT).
• You are comfortable with computers, technology, and Microsoft 365 (knowledge of EMR systems is an asset).
• You are motivated to learn how to use various diagnostic and testing tools.
• You have excellent communication skills in English.
• Your experience in an eye-care environment is an asset.
• Schedule: You have flexible availability on Monday to Thursday, hours vary based on surgery schedule.
• Required flexibility: You have flexibility to be scheduled between our LASIK MD Calgary location & our TLC Laser Eye Centres Calgary location.
