Job summary

Randstad Canada is seeking an experienced Platform Engineer (Observability Engineer) to join our Enterprise Platform Engineering organization on a 12-month engagement. You will lead observability enablement across a large engineering footprint, instrument Datadog, Splunk, and Edge Delta, and guide migrations to modern telemetry practices.

Qualifications

• Observability depth: Minimum 4+ years of hands-on professional experience engineering and administering enterprise observability solutions, with demonstrated expertise in Datadog and Splunk.
• Detection & rule engineering: Minimum 2+ years writing rules, alerts, and advanced monitoring logic within observability tools.
• Agent instrumentation & migration: Experience migrating application servers, configuring observability agents (APM, Infra, Serverless), and deploying Real User Monitoring (RUM).
• Containers & orchestration: Experience implementing observability solutions in Docker and Kubernetes environments.
• Automation & cloud: Knowledge of Terraform or Ansible and public cloud infrastructure (AWS or Azure).
• Education: College degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Communication & collaboration: Strong ability to bridge requirements between engineering teams and vendor partners.

Responsibilities

• Observability Enablement & Onboarding: Guide and support application teams migrating to Datadog using APM, Infra, and Serverless agents.
• Platform Instrumentation: Configure and maintain telemetry solutions across distributed systems, Kubernetes clusters, Splunk ingestion, and Edge Delta pipelines.
• Automation & Agent Rollouts: Execute mass rollout strategies, agent upgrades, and configuration deployments using IaC tools (Terraform/Ansible).
• Vendor & Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with TAMs from Datadog, Splunk, and Edge Delta and internal owners to diagnose blockers and accelerate adoption.
• Logic, Rules & Dashboards: Design and maintain detection logic, alerts, and real-time monitors including RUM metrics.
• Governance & Compliance Alignment: Ensure telemetry data collection complies with privacy and regulatory standards (PII, GDPR, CCPA).
• Continuous Improvement & Tooling: Leverage AI to accelerate documentation, workflows, and troubleshooting.
