Job summary

Interior Health in Nelson, BC is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the Kootenay Lake Regional Hospital. You will perform blood collection, specimen preparation, routine tests, LIS data entry, and related clerical duties, with ECG testing as required.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 plus one year's related experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Certificate of Laboratory Assistant training or equivalent is required.
  • Canadian Driver's License as required by position.

Responsibilities

  • Take blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for analysis.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and operate related equipment.
  • Enter data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and perform related clerical duties.
  • Distribute specimens to Laboratory departments and outside Laboratories; ECG testing as required.

About the Job

The Medical Laboratory Assistant performs a variety of duties within the Laboratory such as taking blood samples from patients, preparing blood and other specimens for analysis, performing routine lab tests, distributing specimens to Laboratory departments and outside Laboratories, operating related equipment, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and performing related clerical duties. They shall also perform ECG testing as required.

This is a Relief Part Time (0.73) opportunity until return of the incumbent.
Shifts of work will be scheduled day and evening shifts.

Qualfications
  • Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program, plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Canadian Driver's License as required by position
  • Ability to type 25 WPM *5 minute invigilated typing test dated within the past 48 months from an approved institution. Please note we do not accept self-administered online tests*
