Job summary

Interior Health is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our Medical Laboratory Department at Castlegar and District Community Health Centre in Castlegar, BC. The role involves taking blood and specimen samples, preparing them for analysis, and performing routine tests in a fast-paced setting.

This permanent part-time (0.41) position offers day shifts, a supportive team, and opportunities for training.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 and successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program.
  • One year of recent related experience or equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Ability to type 25 WPM with a valid typing test dated within the past 48 months.

Responsibilities

  • Take blood and specimen samples from patients and prepare samples for analysis.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and distribute specimens to departments or outside laboratories.
  • Enter data into the Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and perform related clerical duties and ECG testing as required.

Medical Laboratory Assistants perform a variety of duties such as taking blood and specimen samples from patients, preparing blood and other specimen for analysis, performing routine laboratory tests, distributing specimens to departments and outside Laboratories, operating related equipment, entering data into the Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and performing related clerical duties and ECG testing as required.

This is a Permanent Part Time (0.41) opportunity.

Shifts of work will be scheduled day shift.

Qualfications
  • Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program, plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Canadian Driver’s License as required by position.
  • Ability to type 25 WPM *5 minute invigilated typing test dated within the past 48 months from an approved institution.
