Job summary

Interior Health invites applications for an experienced Medical Laboratory Assistant to join Boundary Hospital's Medical Laboratory Department in Grand Forks, BC. You will collect blood samples, prepare specimens for analysis, distribute specimens, operate related equipment, and enter data into the LIS; ECG testing may be required.

This Relief Part Time (0.80) role features day shifts in a small community hospital with a dedicated team and opportunities for training and growth.

Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program.
• Grade 12 education.
• One year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Responsibilities

• Take blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for analysis.
• Distribute specimens to Laboratory departments and outside laboratories.
• Operate related equipment and enter data into the LIS.
• Perform ECG testing as required.
• Carry out related clerical duties in the Laboratory.

About the Job

Boundary Hospital is a 12-bed community hospital where a large team of healthcare professionals facilitate a range of interdisciplinary health services including 24/7 Emergency, medical and surgical services, community health programming as well as Laboratory and X-Ray.

Medical Laboratory Assistants performs a variety of duties within the Laboratory such as taking blood samples from patients, preparing blood and other specimens for analysis, distributing specimens to Laboratory departments and outside Laboratories, operating related equipment, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and performing related clerical duties. They shall also perform ECG testing as required.

This is a Relief Part Time (0.80) opportunity until return of the incumbent.

Shifts of work will be scheduled day shifts.

Qualifications

• Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program, plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Canadian Driver’s License as required by position
• Ability to type 25 WPM *5 minute invigilated typing test dated within the past 48 months from an approved institution. Please note we do not accept self-administered online tests*
