Job summary

Interior Health is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the Medical Laboratory Department at East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, BC. The role involves handling specimens, performing routine tests, and supporting laboratory operations in a dynamic setting.

Qualifications

  • Blood collection and specimen handling as part of routine duties.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and prepare samples for analysis.
  • Enter data into Laboratory Information Systems and maintain accurate records.

Responsibilities

  • Take blood and specimens from patients and prepare for analysis.
  • Operate lab equipment and ensure quality control.
  • Document results and support clerical tasks and ECG testing as required.

About The Job

East Kootenay Regional Hospital is a 75 bed acute care hospital with a medium size Laboratory offering Core Lab, Microbiology, Histology, Pathology, collections and accession services. It is considered a regional referral site for selected testing and there are 30 Medical Laboratory Technologists, and 25 Medical Laboratory Assistants employed in various disciplines.

Medical Laboratory Assistants perform a variety of duties such as taking blood and specimen samples from patients, preparing blood and other specimens for analysis, performing routine laboratory tests, distributing specimens to departments and outside Laboratories, operating related equipment, entering data into the Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and performing related clerical duties and ECG testing as required.

This is a Permanent Part Time (0.61) opportunity.

Shifts of work will be scheduled rotating days, evenings and nights.
