Job summary

Interior Health is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Assistant to join Penticton Regional Hospital in Penticton, BC. The successful candidate will handle specimen collection, labeling, processing, and data entry in the LIS, contributing to timely and accurate lab results.

Shifts will rotate day, evening and night, and this is a permanent part-time appointment (0.74 FTE). A Grade 12 education plus a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program is required.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 and a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program completed.
• One year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination.
• Canadian driver’s license as required by position.
• Typing ability of 25 WPM with a test within the past 48 months.

Responsibilities

• Take blood and receive samples from patients.
• Prepare blood and other specimens for analysis.
• Distribute specimens to departments and referral labs.
• Enter data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and perform related clerical duties.
• Perform ECG testing as required.

About the Job

Penticton Regional Hospital (PRH) is a referral centre for the South Okanagan. Our emergency department sees upwards of 40k visits, and we have 172 acute beds and 102 extended care beds and offer a full range of health services to the community.

Medical Laboratory Assistants perform a variety of duties such as taking blood and receiving samples from patients, preparing blood and other specimens for analysis, distributing specimens to departments and referral Labs, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and performing related clerical duties and ECG testing as required.

This is a Permanent Part Time (0.74) opportunity.

Shifts of work will be scheduled rotating day, evening and nights shifts.

Qualfications

• Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program, plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Canadian Driver’s License as required by position
