Job summary

Interior Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join Penticton Regional Hospital in Penticton, BC. The role requires handling blood and specimen collection, preparing samples for analysis, and performing routine tests in a dynamic environment.

The successful candidate will work rotating days, evenings and nights, covering Penticton and Summerland health centres, with opportunities for training and career growth within Interior Health.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 and completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program.
• One year's recent related experience or equivalent.
• Canadian Driver’s License as required by position.

Responsibilities

• Take blood and specimen samples from patients.
• Prepare blood and other specimens for analysis.
• Perform routine lab tests and distribute specimens to departments and outside labs.
• Enter data into the LIS and perform related clerical duties.
• ECG testing as required.

About the Job

The successful applicant will be primarily located at the Penticton Regional Hospital and will be required to work shifts and cover collections at the nearby Summerland Health Centre. An unrestricted class 5 drivers license is a requirement of this position.

Medical Laboratory Assistants perform a variety of duties such as taking blood and specimen samples from patients, preparing blood and other specimens for analysis, performing routine lab tests, distributing specimens to departments and outside Labs, operating related equipment, entering data into the LIS and performing related clerical duties and ECG testing as required.

This is a Permanent Full Time (1.00) opportunity.

Shifts of work will be scheduled rotating days, evenings and nights.

Qualfications

• Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program, plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience


• Canadian Driver’s License as required by position


• Ability to type 25 WPM *5 minute invigilated typing test dated within the past 48 months from an approved institution. Please note we do not accept self-administered online tests*
