About Meat & Poultry Ontario (MPO)
Meat & Poultry Ontario is the representative voice of Ontario’s meat and poultry sector. Our work strengthens the industry through advocacy, education, events, and technical support. We are looking for a motivated, outgoing and relationship-focused Market Development Specialist to help us grow our membership, build partnerships, and support the success of the sector.
The Opportunity
As a Market Development Specialist, you’ll be at the heart of our engagement with members, partners, and stakeholders. Your role will directly support MPO’s mission by:
- Driving membership growth and retention through direct outreach and strategic planning
- Leading development of the Meat Industry Expo show floor and boosting participation in industry events
- Identifying and securing sponsorship, advertising, and supporter opportunities
- Fostering stakeholder relationships, both within and beyond the industry
- Supporting program delivery, project implementation, and accurate reporting through our CRM (ATLAS)
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement annual membership growth and retention plans
- Conduct site visits and 1:1 meetings with members and prospects (travel average 2 days week)
- Engage stakeholders at events, trade shows, and through direct outreach
- Lead sales and planning for the Meat Industry Expo show floor
- Grow advertising, sponsorship, and supporter revenue streams
- Promote the Centre for Meat Innovation and Technology to industry partners
- Participate in the delivery of project-related activities and industry reports
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a passionate and proactive team member who can:
- Build strong relationships with members, sponsors, and stakeholders
- Identify business development opportunities and turn them into results
- Balance independent work with cross-functional collaboration
- Communicate effectively, both in writing and face-to-face
- Stay organized and detail-oriented while managing multiple priorities
- Represent MPO professionally at meetings and industry events
Bonus if you have:
- Experience in membership-based organizations or industry associations
- Familiarity with CRM systems (like ATLAS)
- Understanding of Ontario’s agri-food or meat processing sectors
- Bilingual (English/French or other) communication skills
