Job summary

Merit Ontario is seeking a highly motivated Business Development Representative, Member Benefits to drive growth in our group insurance benefits program for employers across Ontario's construction industry. You will identify opportunities, build relationships, educate members on available benefits, and manage quotes and proposals from an office or in-person settings.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in business, sales, marketing, or related discipline.
  • 3–5 years of outside sales experience, preferably in group benefits, insurance, or business services.
  • Experience generating leads, prospecting, and developing new business opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of group benefits insurance programs.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Professional presence with strong customer-service orientation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CRM platforms, mobile apps, and virtual meeting tech.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s licence and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, prospect, and qualify new business opportunities.
  • Schedule and conduct introductory meetings, presentations, and follow-up sales meetings.
  • Promote and educate members on group insurance benefits programs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with members through responsive service.

We are seeking a highly motivated Business Development Representative, Member Benefits to support the growth of our member group insurance benefits program. This is an exciting opportunity for a results-oriented sales professional who enjoys building relationships, identifying opportunities, and delivering value to employers across Ontario's construction industry.

This position reports to the President & CEO.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify, prospect, and qualify new business opportunities using a variety of lead generation and business development techniques.
  • Schedule and conduct introductory meetings, presentations, and follow-up sales meetings with prospective members and clients.
  • Promote and educate members on available group insurance benefits programs and service offerings.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with members through responsive service and professional account management.
  • Gather and assess client information to respond to inquiries accurately and efficiently.
  • Prepare and present quotes, proposals, and program information as required.
  • Address member concerns and service issues professionally while ensuring timely follow-up and resolution.
  • Utilize effective sales and relationship-building techniques to support business growth objectives.
  • Maintain accurate records of sales activity, member interactions, and business opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with internal team members and external partners to ensure a seamless client experience.
  • Represent Merit Ontario professionally at industry events, meetings, and member functions.
  • Travel as required throughout Ontario to meet with members and prospective clients.
Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Diploma or degree in business, sales, marketing, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of outside sales experience, preferably within the group benefits, insurance, or business services sector.
  • Experience generating leads, prospecting, and developing new business opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of group benefits insurance programs and employer-sponsored insurance solutions.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Professional presence with a strong customer-service orientation.
  • Technically savvy with proficiency in Microsoft Office, CRM platforms, mobile applications, and virtual meeting technologies.
  • Proven ability to achieve sales targets and business development objectives.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and committed to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Valid Ontario driver's licence and access to reliable transportation.

A Life Licence Qualification Program (LLQP) licence or experience working within the group benefits insurance industry is considered an asset.
