Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field.
  • One or more years of relevant experience in membership services, event planning, or a related field.
  • Experience working for a membership-based association or not-for-profit organization is considered a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong member relationships to gather feedback, strengthen engagement, and support member retention.
  • Support and implement initiatives to grow membership, including outreach to prospective members and coordinating onboarding.
  • Maintain accurate membership records, update contact information, and track membership statistics through the CRM system.
  • Support membership renewals, including invoicing, follow-ups, and tracking membership dues.
  • Coordinate and support the internal Membership Committee, including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas and materials, tracking action items, and ensuring effective follow-up.
  • Organize and execute in-person, hybrid, and virtual events, including conferences, webinars, membership events, and Board meetings.
  • Coordinate venue selection, catering, audiovisual services, and on-site event logistics.
  • Manage on-site event execution, including registration, troubleshooting, and supporting speakers and attendees.
  • Assist in identifying, securing, and stewarding event sponsors, including ensuring sponsorship commitments and benefits are fulfilled.
  • Assist the President & CEO in developing and managing event budgets, including tracking expenses and reconciling post-event finances.
  • Lead post-event evaluations, including attendee surveys and internal debriefs, to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Job description

The Canadian Meat Council (CMC) is seeking a highly organized and proactive Membership and Events Coordinator to join our team in Ottawa. The successful candidate will play a central role in strengthening member engagement, supporting membership growth, and delivering high-quality events that advance Canada's federally licensed meat processing sector. The ideal candidate will have experience in membership services and event planning, and thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

The CMC is the voice of Canada's federally licensed meat industry and the largest component of the food processing sector, with annual sales exceeding $32 billion and supporting nearly 300,000 jobs across the country. Our members process over 90% of Canada's meat, supplying Canadian families and more than 90 export markets with safe, high-quality protein.

Responsibilities

Membership Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with members to gather feedback, strengthen engagement, and support member retention.
  • Support and implement initiatives to grow membership, including conducting outreach to prospective members and coordinating a seamless onboarding process.
  • Maintain accurate membership records, update contact information, and track membership statistics through the CMC's Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.

Organizational Support

  • Collaborate with the Communications Manager to promote the value of CMC membership and increase participation in CMC events.
  • Provide administrative and project support to the President & CEO on strategic and operational initiatives, as required.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with a customer service mindset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also taking initiative and working independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Reliable, professional, and detail-oriented.
  • Willingness to work occasionally outside regular business hours and travel as required.
  • Experience using CRM or database management systems; familiarity with association management software is considered an asset.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.
Education and Experience
