Job summary

Blackbird Security in Ottawa, ON is seeking a Loss Prevention Officer to protect clients and deter theft in a retail setting. You will wear plain clothes, blend with shoppers, monitor aisles and CCTV, and respond to incidents with discretion.

The ideal candidate holds an Ontario Security License, has experience with arrests and detentions, and can communicate clearly. This in‑person role offers paid training, growth opportunities, and a path to advancement within the company.

Qualifications

• A valid Ontario Security License is required.
• Use of Force certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Experience with arrests and detaining shoplifting.
• Previous security experience in retail environment.
• Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Prevent shoplifter theft in a retail environment while providing customer service.
• Wear plain clothes to work undercover, discreetly blending in with shoppers.
• Patrol store aisles, monitor customers and video cameras.
• Confront individuals suspected of theft with unpaid merchandise.
• Escort trespassers out of client premises.
• Perform arrests, detentions and recover unpaid merchandise.
• Complete documentation for security incidents.
• Escalate situations to law enforcement as required.
• Respond to emergencies promptly.

What You Will Do

• Confront individuals you suspect of theft, who have unpaid merchandise.
• Escort trespassers out of the client premises.
• Perform arrests, detainments, and recover unpaid merchandise
• Complete required documentation for security incidents such as theft and violations.
• Escalate situation to law enforcement as required.
• Respond to emergency situations appropriately in a timely manner.

The Ideal Candidate
