With one truck, a strong work ethic and an ardent sense of team spirit, Mike and Antonio Giampaolo established Triple M Metal in 1975. Now, more than 50 years later, we have grown from modest beginnings to become one of North America's largest, privately held, fully integrated recyclers of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals. Our growing enterprise operates 45 facilities across North America, including Canada, the United States and Mexico, with additional interests in Europe. Our established and far-reaching geographic network means we are optimally positioned to maintain and service our current customer base while making strides in new and emerging markets. We strive to build confidence and value from local or community-based peddlers to the most prominent international companies by providing customized solutions that deliver on all metal recycling and process needs.

The Rail Logistics Supervisor leads Triple M Metal's day-to-day rail transportation operations, ensuring consistent railcar supply, proactive demurrage prevention, strong carrier performance, and accurate synchronization of rail logistics data with Triple M’s ERP system (Mayer). This role owns execution of the rail-routing strategy, day-to-day carrier relationships, and development of the Logistics Coordinator(s), driving continuous improvement in cost, service reliability, and operational risk management.

Responsibilities:

Rail Carrier and Fleet Coordination

  • Manage day-to-day relationships with Class I and shortline rail carriers, including performance follow-up and issue resolution.

Demurrage Prevention and Operational Risk Management

  • Own demurrage cost control through Rail TMS tracking, proactive intervention, and direct carrier escalation when service failures threaten cost exposure.
  • Lead corrective action plans with railroads for operational disruptions, missed switches, or recurring issues.
  • Maintain demurrage logs and prepare exception summaries to support ongoing cost control.

Operational Oversight and Direction

  • Provide tactical guidance to Integrated Logistics Coordinators on routing optimization, problem-solving, and operational escalations.
  • Supervise, schedule, and provide ongoing performance feedback to ensure Coordinators consistently apply routing frameworks and risk assessment practices in daily decision-making.

Rail System Optimization and ERP Data Synchronization

  • Maximize use of the Rail Transportation Management System (Rail TMS) to manage operations, carrier tracking, and reporting.
  • Ensure all critical shipment, cost, and fleet data is accurately and timely synchronized with Triple M’s ERP system (Mayer) to support reliable financial reporting, freight auditing, and cost allocation.
  • Partner with IT and Finance to address system integration gaps, data quality improvements, and reporting enhancements.

Routing Strategy and Knowledge Transfer

  • Maintain and apply the Rail Routing Decision Framework, balancing cost, service reliability, transit time, and operational risk.
  • Lead training for Logistics Coordinators and Yard Administrators on best practices in rail logistics operations, ensuring cross-functional proficiency in rail logistics operation decision-making.
  • Maintain the "Rail Routing Playbook" and update quarterly based on market changes and carrier performance.

  • Carrier On-Time Delivery Rate

Cross-Functional Collaboration
