Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. Continuous improvement of quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Under the direction of the Manager or designate and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope, performs assessments, plans and provides personal care, and executes nursing procedures. The nurse operates within the competency guidelines and full scope of practice as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, adhering to agency policies, standards, and unit protocols.

Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience

• Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant.
• Perinatal positions require either (a) completion of a perinatal education and breastfeeding course, or (b) one year of recent acute perinatal experience within the last 2 years. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within the past 2 years is also required.
• MHSU positions require additional education as specified by BCCNM for practice involving Mental Health and/or Substance Use disorders.

Skills and Abilities

• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with residents, families, co-workers, multidisciplinary team members, and the public.
• Ability to organize work and implement care plans.
• Knowledge and competencies to work at full scope of practice, including administering medications.
• Ability to operate related equipment and physically perform duties.
