Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope - (206752)

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. The commitment to continuous quality and safety improvement is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Under the supervision of the Manager or designate and as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope, performs assessments, plans and provides personal care, and carries out nursing procedures. The nurse operates within the full scope of practice as defined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, adhering to competency guidelines, agency policies, standards, and unit-specific protocols.

Qualifications:
Education, Training, and Experience

Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN.

  • Perinatal roles require either (a) completion of a perinatal education program plus breastfeeding course, or (b) at least 1 year of recent (within the last 2 years) acute perinatal experience. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within the past 2 years is also required for perinatal positions.
  • MHSU roles require additional education as specified by BCCNM for practice involving primary Mental Health and/or Substance Use disorders.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with residents, families, co-workers, multidisciplinary team members, and the public.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Organizational skills to plan and implement care.
  • Knowledge and competencies to work at the full scope of practice, including medication administration, as per BC College of Nurses and Midwives standards.
  • Ability to operate relevant equipment.
  • Physical capability to perform duties of the position.
