In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety are priorities and shared responsibilities. The continuous improvement of quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Under the direction of the Manager or designate and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope, performs assessments, plans, and provides personal care, along with nursing procedures. The nurse operates within the full scope of practice as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, adhering to competency guidelines, agency policies, standards, and unit-specific protocols.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant.
  • Perinatal positions require either (a) completion of a perinatal education program plus a breastfeeding course, or (b) one year of recent (within the last 2 years) acute perinatal experience. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within the past 2 years is also required for perinatal roles.
  • MHSU positions require additional education as outlined by BCCNM for practice involving Mental Health and/or Substance Use disorders.
Skills and Abilities
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with residents, families, co-workers, multidisciplinary team members, and the public.
  • Deal effectively with others.
  • Organize work and implement a plan of care.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and competencies to work at full scope of practice, including administering medications.
  • Operate related equipment.
  • Physically carry out the duties of the position.
