Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. Continuous improvement in quality and safety is inherent in this position.

Under the direction of the Manager or designate and collaborating within a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope, performs assessments, plans, and provides personal care, along with nursing procedures. The LPN operates within the full scope of practice as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, adhering to standards, policies, and protocols.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN.
  • Perinatal positions require either (a) completion of a perinatal education program plus breastfeeding course, or (b) one year of recent (within the last 2 years) acute perinatal experience. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within the past 2 years is also required.
  • MHSU positions require additional education as specified by BCCNM for practice involving Mental Health and/or Substance Use disorders.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication with residents, families, co-workers, the multidisciplinary team, and the public.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Organizational skills to implement a care plan.
  • Knowledge and competencies to work at full scope, including medication administration.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical capability to perform the duties of the position.
