Job summary

Stantec’s Energy team in western Canada seeks a Substation Project Engineering Team Lead to guide a team of engineers and contractors on major utility projects in British Columbia. The role reports to the Substation Engineering Manager and emphasizes technical leadership and program delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required.
• 14+ years progressive and comprehensive engineering experience.
• 4+ years management/leadership experience.
• 4+ years leading multi-discipline design teams on large, complex projects.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

• Ensure client expectations related to project scope are clearly understood, met, and exceeded.
• Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to team members; foster initiative, collaboration, and professional growth.
• Champion a strong safety culture by promoting safe work practices and ensuring compliance with all safety regulations.
• Provide technical leadership as a subject matter expert, offering professional engineering advice within and beyond the department.
• Prepare and review technical reports, presentations, standards, specifications, and engineering documentation.
• Lead and coordinate multi-discipline design teams for medium to large-scale projects, ensuring integration across structural, mechanical, civil, and electrical domains.
• Resolve highly technical and unusual design or field engineering issues by conducting independent studies and exercising expert judgment.
• Assist project and operations management in meeting safety, cost, quality, and time objectives; review contractor payments and prepare progress reports.
• Contribute to the development of technical standards and ensure engineering designs support safe operations.
• Provide guidance and technical advice to other emerging engineering professionals.
