Job summary

Qualus Corporation in Vancouver, BC is seeking a Lead Engineer - Mechanical to lead the discipline for substation projects. You will oversee design drawings, calculations, and vendor reviews while mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with clients and contractors.

The role requires a P.Eng. or eligibility to register with EGBC, 5–10 years of mechanical engineering experience, and strong knowledge of applicable codes. A Canadian work authorization is required.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and P.Eng. designation or eligibility to register with EGBC.
• 5–10 years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Strong understanding of regulatory codes and standards (NBC-AB Edition, NECB, ASHRAE, NFPA, API, SMACNA).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical discipline for substation projects.
• Prepare and review mechanical design drawings (site layouts, HVac, piping, fire protection).
• Prepare and review design documents and calculations (design basis, equipment specs, diesel genset sizing).
• Review vendor documents against specifications.
• Lead projects from conception through construction and commissioning; mentor junior engineers.
• Coordinate resource planning, scope, schedule, and budget for the discipline team.
• Coordinate construction and commissioning activities with utility clients and subcontractors.
• Travel to site and liaise with internal groups and clients.
• Ensure latest safe practices and methods are integrated into the design.
• Liaise with Civil, Structural, Architectural, Electrical disciplines.
