Job summary

Qualus Corporation is seeking a Lead Protection & Control Engineer in Canada to lead the P&C team on projects ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV. You will own protection philosophy, review complex drawings, and provide technical direction across a diverse client portfolio including utilities and renewables.

You will mentor engineers, drive design reviews, and support testing and commissioning activities. Candidates should have extensive P&C experience, P.Eng.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; P.Eng. in Canada or eligible to obtain
• 10-15 years of utility-focused protection, control, and metering experience
• Expertise in substation protection philosophy and relay settings
• Experience reviewing P&C designs and performing protection coordination studies
• Hands-on experience with protection software and field installations
• Strong communication, mentoring, and leadership capabilities

Responsibilities

• Act as SME for protection & control across projects
• Set and uphold protection philosophy, standards and practices for HV substations
• Lead engineering activities and provide technical approvals
• Review protection planning, schematics, and wiring diagrams
• Oversee protection coordination studies and relay settings
• Chair design reviews and risk assessments
• Support FATs, SATs, commissioning, and field inspections
• Advise on project sequencing, outages, and commissioning strategy
• Contribute to proposals with technical strategy and risk assessments
• Mentor engineers and improve P&C standards and tools
