Job summary

Suncor Energy Inc. in Edmonton/Sherwood Park is seeking a Chemistry Lab Technician to perform daily crude oil and product analyses in a QC environment. You will operate and maintain instruments, ensure data accuracy, and follow SOPs to support refinery operations.

Requirements include a Chemical Technology Diploma or BSc in Chemistry, 5 years of lab experience, proficiency with wet chemistry, LIMS or SAP, and knowledge of ASTM methods for petroleum testing. Unionized, on-site role.

Qualifications

• Chemical Technology Diploma or a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry / Science.
• 5 years of Chemistry Lab experience. Familiar with Gasoline, Diesel and JetFuel testing.
• Proficiency in wet chemistry and analytical instrumentation.
• Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) or SAP.
• Knowledge of ASTM methods for petroleum testing.

Responsibilities

• Execute daily laboratory analysis on crude oil, intermediates, and finished products using approved Standard Operating Procedures.
• Maintain, calibrate, and verify the performance of laboratory instruments (e.g., gas chromatographs, viscometers).
• Record and report analytical data accurately using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
• Collect, prepare, and analyze samples, including cleaning glassware and maintaining laboratory hygiene.
• Participate in lab quality programs and troubleshoot non-conformance trends.

Location and other key details:

• You will work out of our Edmonton refinery in Sherwood Park, located at 801Petroleum Way
• The shift schedule is a 4 day a week with the requirement to work one weekendday every 5 weeks. with the potential for extended work. Hours will be basedon business needs
• This position is a unionized, overtime eligible position
• Being in a laboratory, there is a significant risk of exposure to chemicals
• The environment requires the use of PPE; safety boots, safety glasses,respiratory equipment, safety gloves, hearing protection, and specializedsafety equipment (clothing, smocks, face shields). Must be able to climbstairs/ ladders and lift up to 50 lbs
