Job summary

Suncor's Edmonton Refinery Laboratory invites you to join a team performing daily crude oil and product analysis in a Quality Control environment. You will operate and calibrate instruments, document results in LIMS, and maintain lab hygiene while following SOPs.

The role requires a Chemistry background and 5 years lab experience, with proficiency in wet chemistry and petroleum testing methods. This unionized, overtime-eligible position offers comprehensive benefits and development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Chemical Technology Diploma or a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry/Science.
• 5 years of Chemistry Lab experience with gasoline, diesel and jet fuel testing.
• Proficiency in wet chemistry and analytical instrumentation.
• Experience with LIMS or SAP.
• Knowledge of ASTM methods for petroleum testing.

Responsibilities

• Execute daily laboratory analysis on crude oil, intermediates, and finished products using SOPs.
• Maintain, calibrate, and verify performance of laboratory instruments (e.g., gas chromatographs, viscometers).
• Record and report analytical data accurately using LIMS.
• Collect, prepare, and analyze samples, including cleaning glassware and maintaining lab hygiene.
• Participate in lab quality programs and troubleshoot non-conformance trends.

Minimum Requirements:

• Maintain, calibrate, and verify the performance of laboratory instruments (e.g., gas chromatographs, viscometers)
• Record and report analytical data accurately using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
• Collect, prepare, and analyze samples, including cleaning glassware and maintaining laboratory hygiene
• Participate in lab quality programs and troubleshoot non-conformance trends

Location and other key details:

• You will work out of our Edmonton refinery in Sherwood Park, located at 801 Petroleum Way
• The shift schedule is a 4 day a week with the requirement to work one weekend day every 5 weeks. with the potential for extended work. Hours will be based on business needs
• This position is a unionized, overtime eligible position
• Being in a laboratory, there is a significant risk of exposure to chemicals
• The environment requires the use of PPE; safety boots, safety glasses, respiratory equipment, safety gloves, hearing protection, and specialized safety equipment (clothing, smocks, face shields). Must be able to climb stairs/ ladders and lift up to 50 lbs
