Job summary

Suncor Edmonton Refinery Laboratory offers a hands-on role in a Quality Control environment, performing analyses on crude oil, intermediates and finished products. You will operate instruments, maintain calibration, and ensure accurate data reporting using LIMS.

The position requires a Chemical Technology Diploma or a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry/Science and about 5 years of chemistry lab experience, with familiarity in gasoline, diesel and jet fuel testing.

Qualifications

• 5 years of Chemistry Lab experience.
• Familiar with Gasoline, Diesel and Jet Fuel testing.
• Proficient in wet chemistry and analytical instrumentation.
• Experience with LIMS or SAP; knowledge of ASTM methods for petroleum testing.

Responsibilities

• Execute daily laboratory analysis on crude oil, intermediates, and finished products using approved SOPs.
• Maintain, calibrate, and verify laboratory instruments (gas chromatographs, viscometers).
• Record and report analytical data using LIMS.
• Collect, prepare, and analyze samples; maintain laboratory hygiene.
• Participate in lab quality programs and troubleshoot non-conformance trends.

Minimum Requirements:

• Chemical Technology Diploma or a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry / Science


• 5 years of Chemistry Lab experience. Familiar with Gasoline, Diesel and Jet Fuel testing

Responsibilities:

• Execute daily laboratory analysis on crude oil, intermediates, and finished products using approved Standard Operating Procedures


• Maintain, calibrate, and verify the performance of laboratory instruments (e.g., gas chromatographs, viscometers)


• Record and report analytical data accurately using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)


• Collect, prepare, and analyze samples, including cleaning glassware and maintaining laboratory hygiene


• Participate in lab quality programs and troubleshoot non-conformance trends

Location and other key details:

• You will work out of our Edmonton refinery in Sherwood Park, located at 801 Petroleum Way


• The shift schedule is a 4 day a week with the requirement to work one weekend day every 5 weeks. with the potential for extended work. Hours will be based on business needs


• This position is a unionized, overtime eligible position


• Being in a laboratory, there is a significant risk of exposure to chemicals


• The environment requires the use of PPE; safety boots, safety glasses, respiratory equipment, safety gloves, hearing protection, and specialized safety equipment (clothing, smocks, face shields). Must be able to climb stairs/ ladders and lift up to 50 lbs
