JOB SUMMARY

The Laboratory Service Technician is a skilled position responsible for maintenance and calibration of instruments common in the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industry. This role requires strong technical judgment, independent problem-solving, and leadership in cross-functional initiatives. This technician will work closely with vendors, Quality Control, Manufacturing, and Engineering teams while maintaining compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Independently perform preventive maintenance, repairs and calibrations of instrumentation, measurement and recording devices used in Quality Control laboratories and Manufacturing.
• Lead or support the qualification and requalification of laboratory and production instruments as per established protocols and quality standards.
• Maintain calibration and maintenance records, ensuring full traceability and compliance with internal procedures.
• Document all work performed in compliance with internal policies and Good Documentation Practices (GDPs).
• Assess and address gaps when best practices with respect to calibration and/or preventative maintenance are updated.
• Collaborate closely with Quality, Engineering and other stakeholders to resolve recurring issues and improve equipment reliability.
• Confidently act as facilitator, trainer, and team leader on repairs and projects.
• Proactively identify areas for process improvements in maintenance workflows, documentation and equipment performance.
• Provide technical and mechanical support on all Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Non-GMP utility systems, as needed.
• Respond to emergency and alarm conditions, with potential to be on-call per scheduled times for emergency service calls at the site to address issues.
• Support affiliated Engineering or Maintenance departments, as needed.
• Participate in inter-departmental initiatives such as inspections of facility mechanical rooms, buildings, and grounds to ensure all areas of the site are clean and audit ready every day.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS
• Minimum of 6 years’ experience in maintenance or calibration functions.
• 2-year trades vocational certification, or equivalent experience.
• Working knowledge of the following maintenance functions:
• Metrology/Calibrations,
• General Mechanical Troubleshooting/Repairs,
• Laboratory Support Equipment.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues independently.
• Must have aptitude for computer systems including maintenance or calibration documentation, building automation operations, and Microsoft Office.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Prior cGMP or regulated industry experience is strongly preferred.
• Must be customer service oriented and quality driven.
• Experience with common quality control laboratory instrumentation (chromatographs, pH/conductivity/density meters, moisture analyzers, spectrometers, etc.) is preferred.
