Job summary

EMSL Canada is seeking a Laboratory Assistant in Calgary, AB to support the laboratory manager and analysts. This role covers receiving, shipping, logging, and preliminary processing of environmental samples, with data entry, reporting, and client liaison responsibilities.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, strong MS Office skills, and the ability to work in a high-volume environment. Training and opportunities to contribute to client-ready reports are provided.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Some laboratory experience preferred.
  • Experience in administration, data entry, and customer service.
  • Proficient in MS Office and able to learn new software quickly.
  • Excellent communication and professional interaction with clients.

Responsibilities

  • Receive environmental samples and log into the system.
  • Review paperwork for completeness and accuracy.
  • Quality control to ensure sample integrity.
  • Coordinate shipping, receiving, and custody transfers.
  • Generate reports and enter data for client reports.
  • Answer client questions via phone, email, and in person.
  • Prepare environmental samples prior to analysis.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as needed.

Job description

EMSL is seeking a Laboratory Assistant in Calgary, AB. This is a support position for the laboratory manager and the analysts. It will oversee preparing, shipping, receiving, distributing, and logging in of samples.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Receive environmental samples and enter Chain of Custody into LIMS systemReview paperwork for all incoming samples to ensure completeness and correctnessQuality control of samples to ensure sample integrityTransfer samples based on priority to appropriate custody locationsCoordinate and perform sample-related activities, including shipping and receiving, processing and administrationGenerate reports, invoices, and enter data produced by analysts into the computer system for the production of the final, client ready reportEnsure the final report is prepared and that the results are reported to the client in a timely mannerAssist with internal and external client questions via phone, e-mail, and in personAct as a liaison between clients and laboratory staffPrepare environmental samples prior to analysisSupport all sample-related activities, including preservation, preparation, and disposalClean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as neededOther responsibilities as deemed necessary by the managerRequirements:High school diploma or GED equivalentAuthorization to work in Canada indefinitely without restriction or sponsorshipSome laboratory experience either in academic or commercial setting is a plusExperience in administration, data entry, and customer serviceProficient in MS OfficeExcellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clienteleAbility to work in a high volume environmentAbility to stand and sit for various lengths of timeAbility to lift up to 25lbs.Effective time management, organizational skills, and ability to multi- task and prioritize with minimal assistanceAvailable Shift:Position is full-time Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Training shift to start will be Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of Calgary, AB are encouraged to apply.EMSL Canada offers supplemental benefits and paid time off.
