Job summary

EMSL Canada is seeking a Laboratory Analyst (Asbestos) in Toronto, ON. No formal lab experience is required; on-the-job training will provide the skills needed to perform PLM, PCM, and TEM analyses and prepare samples for asbestos content. You will generate analytical reports, enter data into LIMS, and support QA/QC procedures, with routine administrative tasks such as sample login and report emailing.

A Geology or related science degree is a plus; Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., on-site.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or related science is a plus.
  • Light microscopy, optical mineralogy/petrographic training preferred.
  • Some laboratory experience in academic or commercial setting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze bulk and solid materials for asbestos content using PLM, PCM, and TEM.
  • Determine visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos/non-asbestos materials.
  • Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as needed.
  • Generate analytical reports and enter data into LIMS system.

Job description

EMSL is seeking a Laboratory Analyst (Asbestos) in Toronto, ON. No laboratory experience is required, just a desire to learn technical skills and become proficient in common laboratory practices and procedures. On-the-job training will be provided for all new employees.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Preparation and analysis of bulk and solid materials for asbestos content using PLM (Polarized Light Microscopy), PCM (Phase Contrast Microscopy), and/or TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy), and all ancillary quality control proceduresDetermination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos materialClean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as neededGenerate analytical reports and enter data into LIMS systemPerform quality control practices per company Quality Assurance/Quality Control manualAdministrative duties including sample login and data entry, scanning and emailing reports and answering phonesOther responsibilities as deemed necessary by the managerRequirements:Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or related science is a plusAuthorization to work in Canada indefinitely without restriction or sponsorshipLight microscopy, optical mineralogy/petrographic microscope training preferredSome Laboratory experience either in academic or commercial setting0 to 1 years’ experience performing asbestos PLM/TEM/PCM analysisAbility to distinguish colors in order to perform analysisAbility to work independently and as a part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability and a positive attitudeEffective time management, organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task and prioritize with minimal assistanceAvailable Shift:Position is full time, Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of Toronto, ON are encouraged to applyEMSL Canada offers supplemental benefits and paid time off.
