Job summary

EMSL Canada, Inc. in Vancouver, BC is seeking a Laboratory Analyst (Asbestos). No laboratory experience is required; on-the-job training will be provided to learn PLM, PCM, TEM and standard lab practices.

You will prepare and analyze bulk materials for asbestos, maintain equipment, generate analytical reports, enter data into the LIMS, and support QA/QC. This full-time, Monday–Friday position offers $21.00 per hour and supplemental benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology or related science is a plus.
  • Authorization to work in Canada without sponsorship (if applicable).
  • Light microscopy training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and analysis of bulk and solid materials for asbestos using PLM/PCM/TEM and QC procedures.
  • Determination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos material.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment; generate reports and enter data into LIMS.
  • Perform QA/QC per manual and handle administrative duties including data entry and reports.
  • Other duties as required by the manager.

Job Location: Burnaby, BC V5C 2H5 Position Type: Full Time Salary Range: $21.00 - $21.00 Hourly

EMSL is seeking a Laboratory Analyst (Asbestos) in Vancouver, BC. No laboratory experience is required, just a desire to learn technical skills and become proficient in common laboratory practices and procedures. On-the-job training will be provided for all new employees.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Preparation and analysis of bulk and solid materials for asbestos content using PLM (Polarized Light Microscopy), PCM (Phase Contrast Microscopy), and/or TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy), and all ancillary quality control procedures
  • Determination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos material
  • Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as needed
  • Generate analytical reports and enter data into LIMS system
  • Perform quality control practices per company Quality Assurance/Quality Control manual
  • Administrative duties including sample login and data entry, scanning and emailing reports and answering phones
  • Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the manager
QualificationsRequirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or related science is a plus
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
  • Light microscopy, optical mineralogy/petrographic microscope training preferred
  • Some Laboratory experience either in academic or commercial setting
  • 0 to 1 years’ experience performing asbestos PLM/TEM/PCM analysis
  • Ability to distinguish colors in order to perform analysis
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability and a positive attitude
  • Effective time management, organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task and prioritize with minimal assistance
Available Shift:

Position is full time, Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
