Position Title: Junior Planner

Type: Permanent Full-time, Non-union

Starting Compensation: $39.38 – $44.30 per hour ($71,663.54 - $80,626.00 per year)

Hours: 35 hours per week

Vacancy: 1 existing vacancy

About The Role

Reporting to the Director of Planning & Development the Junior Planner will assist senior planning staff with all matters relating to land use planning. The Junior Planner responsibilities will include development planning for both the County and its local municipalities.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the review and processing of minor development applications, including committee of adjustment, minor rezoning, and minor site plan approvals.
  • Provide general feedback to planning and development inquiries including designations and zoning provisions.
  • Assist with development applications, property inquiries and zoning compliance forms/letters.
  • Assist Planners in preparing reports on planning applications including severances, variances, minor zoning, and part lot control exemptions.
  • Presentations to committees and councils.
  • Respond to public inquiries.
  • Undertake research and data collection on topics of interest to the County.
  • Develop and maintain information systems required to support planning in the County.
  • Required travel to Local Municipal Planning offices as needed.
  • Assist other support staff and students, as needed, in maintaining the efficient operation of the department, including filling in during absences.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Post secondary diploma in Planning or a related discipline or working toward diploma.
  • Minimum 1 -year of relevant municipal or private planning experience, or proven co-op/intern experience performing junior planner responsibilities.
  • Working knowledge of zoning by-laws, municipal planning processes, planning principles and applicable legislation (including Planning Act, Provincial Policy and Guidelines).
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and teamwork skills and a high degree of initiative.
  • Proven computer skills using Microsoft Office and GIS software.
  • Ability to organize work and resources in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Ability to travel, work a flexible schedule, and consistently achieve deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driver’s abstract and access to a vehicle; flexibility of location may be required.
