A forward-thinking organization is seeking a Junior Planner to support urban and regional planning initiatives. In this dynamic role, you will assist in the management and execution of various planning studies and projects, contributing to policy development and technical analysis. JOB OVERVIEW
As a Junior Planner, you will provide professional support in urban, regional, environmental, transportation, and/or strategic planning by assisting in the coordination, management and execution of planning studies and projects related to federal lands and assets in the National Capital Region. You will contribute to policy development, conduct research and prepare reports, briefing materials and notes. You will assist with technical analysis for both short-term and long-term planning initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, legislation and best practices in urban and regional development.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in urban planning or civil engineering, or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.
EXPERIENCE
One (1) to three (3) years of experience in urban planning, civil engineering or project management, including:
•Providing professional support to management, internal and external stakeholders.
•Assisting with the planning, coordination and management of studies and projects.
•Conducting research and data analysis to support urban, regional, environmental, and/or transportation planning.
KNOWLEDGE
•Of acts, regulations and policies governing urban, regional, environmental and/or transportation planning.
•Of project management principles, theories and practices.
•Of presentation and report writing techniques, as well as departmental communication tools and guidelines.
ABILITIES
•To analyze data and transform findings into actionable insights that guide planning decisions and ensure policies and strategies align with legislation and best practices.
•To identify key challenges and participate in the resolution of issues.
•To establish priorities and meet deadlines in a multi-project environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS
•Lifting or handling papers and files, with an occasional requirement to box up and move boxes of files or copy paper weighing up to 9 kg (20 lb).
•Occasionally required to visit construction sites to review progress of work.
•Standing, climbing and/or walking for short periods of time, incidental to the work being performed and when visiting construction sites.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
•Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance.
•Linguistic profile: Bilingual BBB.
•Position is in the National Capital Region. The person selected for this position must reside within a commutable distance from the workplace at 40 Elgin Street, Ottawa, Ontario.
