Qualifications

YOUR OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Director, Investment Management, the Junior Analyst, Investment Management is responsible for a variety of cross-functional responsibilities including assisting with the thorough review of funding conditions, preparing draws for funding, and liaising with various internal and external stakeholders in order to facilitate timely funding of loans within the terms of the loan program. In addition, the Junior Analyst, Investment Management is responsible for assisting in providing ongoing mortgage administration services, which may include preparing mortgage renewals, payouts, and discharges. This role additionally includes occasional credit analysis, review of financing proposals, and making recommendations with respect to the satisfaction of conditions and funding of draws. The Junior Analyst ensures that all data is accurately entered and structured in the system appropriately, allowing for proper calculation of loan-to-value (LTV), loan-to-cost (LTC), and other key financial metrics. This position requires strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a high-performance, fast-paced environment.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Loan Funding and Coordination
  • Review and verify all conditions precedent before funding approval.
  • Prepare and review construction draw calculations, working with senior team members to ensure compliance with approved budgets and loan terms.
  • Recommend draws for funding, with a focus on financial prudence and project viability.
  • Ensure all loan advances are accurately entered into the system, enabling proper calculation of LTVs, LTCs, and other key financial metrics.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders (underwriters, analysts, originators, and loan administration) and external parties (borrowers, legal teams, consultants) to help to facilitate seamless funding execution.
Credit Review & Analysis
  • Assess mortgage credit applications on an ongoing basis, separate or in conjunction with Funding responsibilities, to evaluate:
  • Market value reasonability
  • Borrower credibility and repayment ability
  • Project feasibility and exit strategy viability
  • Market outlook, economic fundamentals, and risk factors
  • Working with senior team members, prepare credit recommendations and executive summaries for approval.
  • Identify key risks and mitigants within transactions
Loan Administration & Servicing
  • Help to maintain accurate loan record information, including principal balances, charges, property details, security values, and investor portfolio balances.
  • Assist in facilitating post-closing activities, including renewals, amendments, discharges, and account administration.
  • Conduct due diligence searches as required, ensuring accurate tracking within loan administration systems.
  • Review loan agreements, loan security documentation, and other source materials to maintain proper records in the servicing system.
Process Improvement & Compliance
  • Identify areas for process improvement and recommend efficiencies in funding workflows.
Special Projects & Strategic Initiatives
  • Support technology and automation enhancements to streamline workflows.
  • Contribute to research and analysis to implement industry best practices and improve operational effectiveness.
YOUR CAPABILITIES AND CREDENTIALS
  • Working towards a bachelor’s degree in finance, real estate, economics, business, or a related field.
  • Experience with financial modeling and loan performance analysis.
  • Familiarity with mortgage loan documentation, legal security processes, and applicable regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with strong data management capabilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-performance team environment.
  • Exceptional financial acumen and an analytical skill set with the ability to problem solve effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with local (Albertan and Canadian) economic conditions and indicators is considered an asset.
